FP 2020

Although Nepal made remarkable progress on Family Planning, significant disparities in service utilization among different population group remain further exacerbated by recent Earthquake and ongoing political unrest, especially in the Terai region where Nepal borders with India. With nearly 9 months of embargo by the Government of India, the denizens of Nepal were hard-hit by the shortage of petroleum products, kerosene, cooking gas, medicine and other necessary food supplies. Therefore, there is an urgent need to expand health services to reach the most vulnerable group with a special focus in the hard to reach communities residing in Terai. The purpose of this project is to expand access to quality Family Planning services particularly for the most vulnerable and hard-to- reach communities of Rautahat, Sarlahi, Sunsari and Udayapur.

The project aims to Increase the number of new acceptors of modern FP methods, including IUD and Implants in the project districts by at least 20% and to distribute male condoms at strategic locations across the project districts.

Achievements of the project:

  • Insertion of 1350 Long Acting Reversible Contraceptive Family Planning services.
  • Distribution of 80 set of IUCD and 80 Implant sets.
  • Distribution of 1300 DMT and MEC wheel.
  • 48 government staff trained on LARC
